Link to AI is Coming for Public Finance. What is it Actually Doing?
The International Budget Partnership highlights that AI is already entering public financial management, but adoption is uneven and accountability is lagging behind. Its analysis of 82 countries found operational AI use in 18 countries, with another 21 developing pilots or strategies. The most common applications are in tax compliance and fraud detection, budget execution monitoring, expenditure classification, fiscal forecasting and citizen-facing digital assistants.
